We’re Already On Our Way
Appalachian Forest Alliance is not starting from zero. Individuals, businesses and community supporters have already stepped forward with equipment, professional services, expertise and access to land for our programs.
The Tellico Village Computer Users Club (https://www.tvcuc.org/) donated two refurbished laptop computers, two monitors, and a printer valued at $1720 to help equip our operations. Reynwood Forest Management has contributed $2250 in staff time, forestry expertise and assistance with startup and program development. An attorney donated legal services valued at $1500 to review all of our organizational documents, and several landowners have offered the use of their properties for forest restoration projects. We also have received individual cash donations of $216.
These contributions have significantly reduced the amount of cash needed to launch Appalachian Forest Alliance and help position us to begin putting our mission into action.

Your donation will help cover our remaining startup and operating expenses and, most importantly, put our first crew in the woods in Allegany County, Maryland.
Approximately $2,000 — Startup Costs Already Incurred
Formation, registrations, website and technology, administrative expenses, outreach and other costs to establish AFA.
Approximately $3,000 — Insurance and Field Readiness
Insurance coverage and other expenses necessary to safely put crews and volunteers in the field and protect the organization and its Board of Directors.
Approximately $4,000 — First One-Acre Forest Project
This funding will put our first crew in the woods in Allegany County, MD. It will cover labor, equipment, fuel, transportation and other project costs to improve at least one acre of forest while turning suitable wood removed during the work into firewood for families in need.
What Your Support Makes Possible
A healthy forest is more than a collection of trees. It provides wildlife habitat, protects water, stores carbon, and leaves a stronger forest for the next generation.
But many Appalachian forests need help.
Overcrowded, damaged, and poorly formed trees can prevent healthier trees from reaching their potential. Through careful forest improvement work, Appalachian Forest Alliance can give the best trees room to grow while putting the wood we remove to good use.
That is where one act of giving can do two kinds of good.
The same work that improves a forest can produce firewood for a family struggling with the cost of heating their home.
A tree that needs to be removed can become warmth on a cold winter night. A day’s work in the woods can leave behind a healthier forest. And an acre improved today can continue growing, providing habitat, protecting our streams, and benefiting future generations for decades to come.
